One of the great things about moving back to my hometown is that around the holidays, I get to reconnect with old friends who are are in town to visit their families. After a painfully quiet day at the office, I was looking forward to hanging out with two sisters I've known since the 7th grade. And in spite of one them living less than 4 miles from my doorstep, I haven't hung out with either of them in awhile. To put it frankly, they both suck at communication, but in 22 years that appears to be their only vice. I think I can live with that. They called me on their way to a lounge in the city and I met them for drinks. The second great thing about Pittsburgh, is that any venue can turn into an episode of Cheers on the right night. And this was one of those nights. Perhaps it's just one of the benefits of living in a relatively small city. Our childhood nostalgia lays just beneath the surface, waiting to rekindled.
It was a virtual high school reunion: My friend, Missy, who lately has been severely anti-social, happened to be at the same lounge having her first glass of wine in over a decade. Missy and I attended the same high school, so my camp knew her camp and so and so on like a shampoo commercial. I also ran into a girl I hadn't seen since elemenatry school. She lives in New York now and looks amazing. There was so much laughter and excitement in the air, that it became infectious. I went to sleep that night anticipating another reunion, but I'm reluctant to get my hopes up.
